Wood Burner imperial smoked stout aged in bourbon barrels. Over the years we have brewed a plethora of bit stouts and porters, and the idea of brewing an imperial smoked stout was something we had been kicking around for a while. When an open brew day presented itself, we knew exactly what to do. The base stout focuses on rich caramel and chocolate notes with a deep savory/smoky backbone. The entire batch found its way into bourbon barrels, where it rested for over a year. An enticing combination of sweet and savory, with waves of dark chocolate and vanilla that wash over the palate. Cheers to stoking the creative flame in all of us!

375ml bottle pours out black topped with a small tan head. Nose is smoke ash bourbon barrel chocolate vanilla. Taste is more of the chocolate ash smoke meat notes and a nice barrel kick.

Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is light smoke, caramel, toffee, fudge, taste is sweet, boozy bourbon, chocolate, toffee, light on the smoke, little cheesy.

Bottle. Black pour. Aroma of rich bourbon, chocolate, smoke, red fruit, caramel fudge, licorice and oak. Taste of rich full bourbon, rich smoke, red fruit, caramel fudge, oak, chocolate, licorice and a long rich finish. This is how it should be, fantastic beer.

Bottle, 375 ml from de Bierliefhebber. Shared with Max and JFK10000. Black with beige head. Caramel, chocolate, warming, dried dark fruit, smoke, quite sweet. Medium to full bodied. Nice complexity.

7-4-7-4-14 Bottle, shared with Inbreak and friends. Pours pitch black, with a rocky, off white head. Aroma is dark roasted malts, with kandi, vanilla and muscovado, as well as leather and wooden barrels. Full body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is dark, fruity malts, with vanilla, cocoa, liquorice and muscovado, as well as wooden barrels.

I can imagine the base being properly smokey, but here the bourbon overpowers that. Tons of bourbon, lightly smokey, chocolate, thick, smooth and warming.

Nice light brown creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is rich and sweet, dark sugar, dark malts, mild bourbon, licorice, caramel, chocolate, toffee, vanilla, grass, oak, chocolate pudding. Taste is slightly dry boozy, whiskey, oak, coffee, grass, licorice, salt water, weeds, burnt caramel, cocoa. Medium bitterness, dry kind of watery mouthfeel. Nice.
