Blackberry Daze IPA gets its hop bitterness and some hop aroma in the brewhouse, but most of the action happens in the cellar when the fruit is added during secondary fermentation. A special blend of loamy, herbaceous hops for dry-hopping complements the brightness and deep complexity of the blackberries. The result is a funky synthesis of rich earth and ripe fruit, hop bitterness and blackberry tartness, with alluring color and aromas up front, sublimely intense flavors, and a refreshingly dry finish.

Bottle from Mace South Circular Road, Dublin [090718]
AMber, hazy, frothy white head, good lacing
Aroma - Soft blackberry, soft citrus hops, dab of sweet caramel
Taste of bitter citrus zest, some spicy bitter hops, blackberry, quite complex, soft sweet caramel, some herbal earthy hops, it's nice, blackberry blended well, not too much of it
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, quite bitter , good texture, no booze. Finish of bitter hops, soft berry fruits
Overall - Good beer - blackberry doesn't smother the flavour

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy orange color with a huge creamy-soapy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was dryish and musty with faint vague berry. The flavor was tart, dry, grainy and yeasty with faint vague berry. Medium length finish. Medium body.

0.355 l bottle from 'BeerLovers', best before December 2019. Almost clear, orangeish amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish, rather resiny, moderately fruity aroma of lots of pine, orange jam and some blackberry. Just slightly sweet, quite bitter, resiny and moderately fruity taste of pine, grapefruit, orange jam and some blackberry, followed by a medium long, fairly bitter, resiny finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Good beer, rather classic despite the subtle blackberry.

Aromat kwiatowo-perfumowo-trawiasto-owocowo-mydlany. Smak jakis gerbaciany z niefajnym posmakiem i goryczka, taniczno-cierpkimi. Dziwne, e

Bottle from Craftissimo at home. First impression - like a fruity tart layer on top of the characteristic Anchor biscuity/Pilsner-y profile. Slightly purplish (but may be suggestion) pour with fine white head. Aroma is tart berry, pine hop, and biscuit malt. Taste is the same. Not a bad addition to the Anchor range but they all are very very similar. This one probably my favorite of the bunch though.

Rated September 2017. Classic 12oz Anchor bottle pours with a clear copper body that has faint light purple hues and thin gold edges supporting a thin white head. The aroma offers up mineral, biscuit malts, yeasty minerals and then a berry fruitiness. The taste delivers bright bitter berry and equally bright and bitter pine hops that have a mineral yeasty edge. After some palate adjustments the classic Anchor water, yeast and malt backbone seem somehow reassuring. The moderate degree of berry fruitiness persists from front to back. Ok. This from another brewer would score lower but this is classic Anchor character. I dig it.

12oz bottle. Purple amber unfiltered body. Thin, glass rimming white head. Astringent and dry...tastes very antiquated, like a mediocre fruit beer from 1999 Portland. Sort of does capture both blackberry and IPA, but it doesn't really work at all. Not outright bad, but in no way an impressive offering. Last time we saw a good beer come out of Anchor it was the Bock...it has been a long time.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/26/2017. Pours slightly hazy medium orange/amber/light pinkish color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lightly tart blackberries, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, mango, melon, red grape, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, pine, toasted biscuit, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/earthy hops, blackberries, and moderate bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big lightly tart blackberries, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, mango, melon, red grape, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, pine, toasted biscuit, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of blackberry, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, mango, melon, red grape, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, pine, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops, blackberries, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and slightly acidic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is a delicious fruit IPA! All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops, blackberries, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and pretty refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Very juicy/vibrant hops, with great balance of blackberries. The fruity hop character compliments the blackberries really well. On the sweeter/balanced side for an IPA, but still as adequate dryness. A very enjoyable offering.
