*Rating overgezet 2017* Gekregen van Benzai. Het is een pikzwart bier met een volle bruine schuimkraag. Het heeft een gebrande moutige geur met tonen van caramel en chocolade. De smaak is gebrand, koffie en whiskey achtig.

Small creamy ring over virtually black beer. Peat, peated malt, Islay, mineral, and green leaves as fern or darker. Light chocolate, almost crisp flavour "despite" the Islay. Some coffee appearing and again dark green leaves. Very well-bodied, furious alcoholheat, long lasting roasted flavour. Very goode beer, much better than former Basement B.A. tasted. Thanks to Stef!

Bottled May 2018. Dark brown colour, almost black, small brown head. Aroma is cocoa, funky, peat, some spices. Alcohol does not disturb. Medium sour, light bitterness. Looks like an infection. Decent.
Geurt beter dan ie smaakt. Betere kelders gehad.

0.33 l bottle from 'Speciaal Bier Winkel', bottled in November 2016. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite roasty, slightly smoky and a little fruity aroma of dark chocolate, lots of coffee, some peat and a touch of dark fruits. Moderately sweet, malty, quite roasty, slightly smoky and a little fruity taste of dark chocolate, massive coffee, licorice, a touch of peat and traces of dark fruits, followed by a medium long, rather roasty-bitter, earthy-dry and slightly peaty finish. Full body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Great balance, the barrel character is quite subtle but adds another layer of complexity to the base beer. Unbelievably good for a brewery that has so far only been known for its hoppy beers.

Pitch black pour with a tan head. Notes of roasted coffee as well as brewed coffee, dark cherries, dark chocolate, licorice, molasses, sherry, smoke, light peat, whiskey. I am surprised by the quality of the coffee notes in this stout, especially since, according to the label, no coffee was used in the brewing process. A really nice imperial stout, dark and roasty but not too bitter or smokey and the barrel notes are excellently integrated.

Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, full sized quite thick medium dark brown colored head that lasts for quite a long time. Aroma is awesome: malts, dark malts, heavily chocolate and coffee. Taste malts, coffee, chocolate and whiskey. Seems simple but it’s the other way around: simply awesome! This is definitely one of the best Imperial Stouts from a Dutch brewery I’ve had in an awful long time, possibly one of the best Dutch BA RIS I’ve ever had. Even though the bruichladdich doesn’t really show in the flavor. Provided you like coffee imperial stouts, this is very very nice imo. Thick mouthfeel, oily syrupy texture, suitable soft carbonation. Awesome!
