At a tasting, thanks, almost no head, murky dark brown color, aroma of minerals and plaster with some chocolate. not too pleasant, same traits in flavor with some caramel and maltz. Not good, difficult to drink.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Tom L's place. Thanks zvikar. Brown. Caramel, malt, chocolate, oxidation, a bit of fruitiness, a bit of plaster, sweetish, slightly sourish, some roast. OK.

33cl Bottle from Vonk. Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of cola, something herbal mixed with brown sugar, roast, ash. Flavour of cola, ash, laurel, berries, light sourness, hint of coffee. Light bodied. Weird stuff, makes you come back for more although - or because -you’re not sure you like it or not.

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, ruby brown colour with a beige and short foamy head. Moderately roasty malty nose with hints of coffee, bread crusts and toasted sesame. Roasty bitter and slightly sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a tame carbonation. Dark and moderately roasted malty taste with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and mildly burnt accents, leading into a dry and mildly roasty bitter finish with a whiff of sourness. 01.VIII.16

Gourmet-Flasche: Deep ruby-amber coloured, presumably hazy, small - but stable - off-white foamy layer; dry roasty-ashy nose, caramelly and fruity traces incorporated; moderate bitter-sweet flavour plus a slight acidity, only light bodied; slightly lingering dryish ashy and fruity finish. O.K., but a bit thin…

0.33 l bottle from ’Vormann Brauerei’ as ’The Monarchy Othello Porter’, best before September 2016. Clear, very dark red to black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Sweetish, roasty-malty aroma of coffee, dark chocolate and some caramel with hints of raisins. Sweetish-malty taste of coffee, dark chocolate and caramel, followed by a medium long, roasty-bitter finish. Thin to medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. A bit too thin and quite one-dimensional but still decent.
