Pours unclear, dark reddish amber. Smell is full, fruity. Taste is intense, dry, funky, cassis. Mild acetic. Rather nice, really.

Bottle shared at home with a big thanks to Maakun! Near clear red amber with white head. Sweet and sour grains, massive elderflower and blackberry leaves, forest fruits and herbal leafy notes. Strawberries, blackberries. Nutty edges. Yoghurty yeast. Medium sour, light sweet, quite bitter. Medium body and soft fizzy carbonation. Jammy feel. Lovely weird stuff. Loving it.

Bottle shared. Bit hazy deep ruby to purple with dull pink head. Wet cellar funk, quite earthy, very lactic, dry earthy cassis, yoghurt with weird spices and elderberries, leafy, bitter berry skins, forest floor, wet dank funk, old wood. Under medium sweet and sour, medium bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Quite weird. It’s very interesting, not great but nice to try.

One of the four new OWA lambics, this one with black currant berries, a fruit of which Japan is a major producer, hence the link with Japan. From the classic 37.5 cl geuze bottle with cork and purple paper folded around the neck. Snow white, mousy but thin and large-bubbled, dissolving head on a ruby red beer with deep purplish hue, hazy, even clouded with sediment. Aroma of lots of sour-and-sweet black currant (cassis juice), bread crumbs, red wine vinegar, dry hay, green tomatoes, grass silage, unsugared forest fruit yoghurt, redcurrant bushes. Sour onset, strongly soaked in unmistakable cassis flavour, adding fructose sweetishness, fruity acidity and that typical spicy flavour associated with fresh black currant berries, clear lemony sourness from the lambic as well, but not too harshly puckering; medium carb, slick wheaty and bread-crusty ‘soil’ with lots of drying fruit and lactic acidity as well as outspoken tannic effects from the skins and seeds of the fruit, likely even more so than from wooden barrel, ending dry with grass silage- and dusty earth-like, Bretty and woody aspects still deeply soaked in cassis. Less ‘exotic’ perhaps than the other three new OWA lambics, all of which have very unusual but fascinating flavour profiles, this one is in all respects an exemplary and delicious black currant lambic, deserving of a high score on this site. I am left wondering why the more ‘classic’ lambic producers do not come up with black currant products more often.

7/VI/19 - 37.5cl bottle from De Gedeelde Vreugde (St. Niklaas) @ Belgian Ticks Tasting, home, BB: I/2024 - (2019-826) Thanks to Alengrin for sharing the bottle!
Clear bright red beer, small creamy off-white head, stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: fruity notes, lots of brett, nice funky notes, bit woody, more fruit notes, cassis, lovely! MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: fruity start, nice acidity, lemon juice, pretty darn bitter as well, some tannins, fruit skin, bit metallic. Aftertaste: dry, lots of black currants, sourish, lemon rind, fermenting lemon.
