Ebony-dark chocolate body has light clarity on the edges and a large, tan head atop showing strong retention.
Not nearly as much fudge as the Sumi Ink and actually quite different, with more light ash, roast and hints of orange zest. Light vanilla and caramel add "sweetness" as it warms. Strong esters, slightly "hot" at times but it’s not horribly boozey, though it seems another month or so in bottle may have benefited it somewhat.
In the mouth it’s fairly rich and malty, with a soft texture and low but tight carbonation. Dark chocolate is strong with light ash and moderate roast. Medium acidity with light fruitiness, though it stems more from the esters than the malts. Great attenuation overall and the touch of vanilla goes a long way for the complexity here. Quite nice, still a touch sweet, but a vast improvement from the syrupy mess that was Sumi Ink. Lots of chocolate and orange zest; kind of reminds me of Daybreak Orange liquor barrel. Still some light glue and other hot esters, but I assume those will pass in another few months.

22 oz. Bottle purchased at Spruce Creek Provisions. Lasting fluffy tan head sitting on a pitch black liquid. Aroma is ashy chocolate, roast, mild citrus peaks through as it warms.
Flavor shows me a smooth, velvety texture in a full body. The mouthfeel is luscious. Chocolate ashy backbone with a mild citrus peel bitterness to give balance. I talking about a subtle citrus peel. Almost like a "chocolate orange" candy. The 11.5 percent is hidden extremely well. Wait, wait... 11.5 %, no F ’ing way!! Overall, this is very impressive. Drinks so easy. I was able to solo dome the entire bottle.

Bottle at home. Dark brown pour hint of cherry coloration. Nose is rich chocolate and liquer. Tastes of orange cordial, apricot, chocolate, some leaves, and soy sauce. Not overy rich but perhaps my cold has subdued flavors. Some booziness for sure amd rather slick palate.

Bottle. Pours inky black with large foamy spongy tan head, roasted malt aroma, medium carbonation, medium bitter mocha taste with orange zest flavor and bite from the underlying alcohol, thick body, long medium bitter finish with a bit of a burning throat from the alcohol and orange zest. Decidedly warms you up, from the throat down, very interesting brew.
