We took our original J. Wakefield collaboration Affogato Imperial Stout and aged it in bourbon barrels for 6 months at our Hudson Road barrel house. Affogato Imperial Stout is inspired by a few of our brewers' favorite summertime pick-me-up (& cool-me-down) Barrington's affogato.

Barrel Aged Affogato Imperial Stout is decadent, rich and full. Brewed with a blend of Barrington & Mostra beans, Affogato leads with aromas of vanilla, toasted marshmallows and subtle notes of bourbon. Barrel Aged Affogato has a full, satisfying body and an indulgent palate of vanilla cream, hot cocoa, rich brownie batter, with complimentary doses of smooth coffee and bourbon.

650ml bottle @ Trillium Canton. Thanks for sharing, random guys! Sweet, syrupy and slightly roasty with loads of vanilla, creamy milk coffee, bourbon, oak, toffee, marshmallows and molasses. Sweet, syrupy and complex slow sipper.

Draught at Trillium, Roslindale, 2/3/18.
Inky, dark ebony, probably opaque though not definitively determined. No head.
Strong vanilla-marshmallow up front. Hugely sweet, malty and decadent, as the base beer was/is. Very light bourbon presence on end is curiously light and balanced. Alcohol is obviously, inevitably present at this level, yet it's not raw/sharp/dominant and the time in barrel, as well as all of this malt, has certainly softened its edge. Hints of spicy, bourbon-meets-maraschino are quite pleasant, lingering on as if almost a bit of an old fashioned.
In the mouth it's a jumbled, rich ridge of fudge, vanilla, earth, raisin and plum. Bourbon-like spice and slight heat prickles at the palate and slowly crescendos. The finish comes alive with cherry vanilla and spicy bourbon creating a huge maraschino character seen from the nose. Thick, powerful, syrupy texture; very viscous and rich and yet the acidity and against-all-odds, reasonable attenuation win through in the end. Bourbon, of course, has helped dry out and somewhat cut the thick texture. Like the base beer, it's shockingly nice. Hard to say which one I prefer. I usually don't care for bourbon aging all that much, but it's done so tastefully here....

750 ml bottle from Fort Point. Aroma is bold vanilla, espresso, mild bourbon, and sugar. The flavor is SOOO smooth! The mouthfeel is velvet, awesome texture. The flavor is gorgeous! Italian coffee to boot; vanilla and the slightest amount of bourbon in the finish. Not to hot and alcohol is mostly hidden, (for the strength) WOW, just fucking whoa!
