She’s So Italian is inspired by our friend Agostino Arioli of Birrificio Italiano’s beer Fleurette which we brewed with him at RRBC as a collaboration back in 2008. Our 2019 recipe is a blonde kettle sour ale brewed with violets, roses, honey, black pepper, and elderberry juice. It is lightly hopped in the kettle with Chinook and Celeia, a Slovenian hop. This refreshingly light beer has beautiful aromas of flowers, tea and honey, with a mild peppery backbone. The addition of Lactobacillus to the kettle adds to the refreshingly dry, tart and crisp finish. And a low ABV makes makes it quite drinkable!

Bottle shared by Jack, thanks! Pours a near clear light yellow with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has light flora and light fruits with a bit of straw underlying. Flavor has light flora and a hint of tart fruits and a thin light grain backing.

Bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours slightly hazy gold with a creamish white head. Aroma of flowers and honey. Med body or so. Flavor is floral, mildly pepper/spice, honey (especially on my lips) and fruit that could be berry. Dryish. Not bitter, but lightly peppery/spicy. Just tart enough to qualify for the descriptive. Good flavor mix.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a hazy golden wiit a neat, white head with good retention. Pours thick and syrupy - well, even slimy and keeps developing head in the glass. A head that will stick to your fingers like clear snot (sic!). one of the oddest textures on a beer that I have ever encountered! Nose is lactic tart, but subtle. Body is light, slightly tart with very little flavor. No bitterness. The slimiest beer I have ever encounterd, simply fels like it had gelatine added, but I assume something went terribly wrong in the kettle souring. 180320

Poured from a 500 ml bottle. Aroma is rather floral with light pepper and honey notes. Light grain notes and faint honey notes. Pours a fairly clear, brilliant gold with a large, thick, pillowy, white head that recedes steadily to a small film that lingers. Moderately high lacing and no legs. Flavor is a bit of an odd blend of acidic and sweet with medium light malt notes; it alternates between sweet and sour. Medium bitterness. Moderately strong floral notes with light elderberry notes. Faint honey. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an odd beer but a somewhat enjoyable one as well. Nice floral notes with light elderberry and a bit of acidity.

Super crisp, but showing some haziness to the pure golden coloured body with a thinnish pure white head, only a centimetre or so tall. Aroma of wheat, light yeast, bread, a touch of soured grain with a dose of hay and flowers in the mix. Light-bodied; Strong grassy and yeastie flavours at first that show some hay and more herbal notes along with a dose of slightly soured fruits like pears and peaches, but more yeast than anything else. Aftertaste shows the grass, hay, yeast and soft sugars with only a touch of funk on the end, this is fairly straight forward. Overall, a nice and enjoyable light beer that has a nice kick of fresh fruit with a tiny bit of sourness, but nothing overpowering and only a touch of hay and yeast on the end that draws out the dryness, especially on the end. I sampled this sixteen ounce pour on draught at the Russian River brewpub here in Santa Rosa, California on 11-March-2019 for US$6,00 while in Napa Valley, and while not an amazing start to their beer, a good enough option for the style.
