Blitzen got a little rocked this holiday season and showed up late to the party. A Triple IPA with a ridiculous amount of Simcoe, Citra, CTZ and Centennial. Better late than never.

Draught@Mikkeller Sthlm. Deep amber colour, small white head. Aroma is bready, crystal malty along with some berries and sweet fruity and floral notes. Flavour is very similar with the addition of extremely sweet tropical fruit juice.

Draft. An amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, malt, caramel, and hop juice. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, malt, over ripe fruits, and hops, leading to a very bitter finish.

On tap in The Crow Bar, Orange County, 11th July 2014. Dull golden amber body with thinning white top. A good blend of malty sweetness and hop bitterness. Came cold but it got interesting as it warmed in the glass. Citrus notes from the hops with a caramel feel from the malts. Medium bodied with the alcohol well hidden throughout.

Orange gold, clear, small white head, sticky. Lots of caramel malt, pineapple tangerine hops, no booze surprisingly, floral. Quite sweet, good hop flavor but it’s a bit dominated by all of that malt sugar, finishes sweet and malty, pleasant malt flavor but it’s just not how I like my DIPAs. Slick, heavy feel, no booze but a lot of sugar.

Tap@Faction. Pours clear orange with a small off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is super light, a bit of citrus, pine, some caramel. Flavor is malty and sweet - hugely sweet actually. It tastes like unfermented malt extract. Light bitter, not much going on here; I hope just a bad batch. Medium body, bit of a harsh finish. Yuk.

Sample at The Bistro DIPA-Festival, February 8. Hazy golden with a white head. A bit on the sweet side with pineapple, citrus, orange and some malt to balance it. Fairly dry and hoppy finish. A solid one.
