Bottle with swingtop 0,5ltr: Hazy dark brown colored brew with an dry bitter taste, hints of roasted malts and caramel. Altbier doesn't have appellation d'origine contrôlée like Kölsch, so an Cologne brewery can brew ironically an Altbier.

Bottle from the brewery. Alt made in Cologne? Go figure! Rather mild nose, a bit of caramel, brown sugar, apple. Deep orange-brown, hazy, with a tall bubbly head. Flavor is toasted malt, caramel, bread, very earthy. Not so sweet after the mid-palate, with a strong, bitter finish and also a bit husky, with notes of apple and chocolate. Rather interesting alt. Bitter, dry finish. Rather full in body. Worth a try.

Sampled from 0.5 l bottle at the brewpub, best before January 2018. Clear, dark reddish brown with a beige head. Sweetish, malty and a little fruity aroma of caramel, nuts and some raisins. Moderately sweet, malty, slightly fruity and minimally roasty taste of caramel, raisins, nuts and faint hints of chocolate, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly roasty finish. Medium body, almost creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice!

Buddel: A bit unclear, small and very slowly collapsing off-white creamy head; dryish toasty and fruity nose, hops and a tinge of chocolate detectable; moderate dry bitter flavour with a light residual sweetness, light bodied and a bit tart; lingering dry fruity-caramelly finish with lingering hops in the aftertaste. Alt op Kölsch, not the worst one…

bottle, courtesy of pivnizub! Golden orange colour, mid-sized long-lasting head. Malty with some caramel and burnt flavours, pleasantly bitter.

Malty-dry beginning; lots of dry malt, hints of roast, nice bitter hopped. Nuts, nice dry, not too deep but fresh and roasted bitter. Dry bitter malty aftertaste, nuts, roast, even typical Alt character. Not bad - and for coming from cologne even better.
