On tap at BeerYard 2 Zagrebas Staročeško Walnut. Muddy golden/brownish coloured, small white to off-white head, walnut in the nose. Moderate to light malty, caramel, walnut and rather dry finish. Discreet alcohol also. Interesting and not bad.

On tap at Beeryard, Zagreb. Pours murky orange brown, small off-white head. Malty, sweet and walnut liquor all around, some alcohol. Medium bodied. Interesting concept, I’d say the result could be better.

Aug. ’16. On tap at BeerYard Festival, Zagreb. It poured a hazy golden to brownish body with a medium sized head. Green, underripe walnut aroma, lightly lactic, herbal and alcoholic. Flavor was sweetish, quite strong and alcoholic, like a real walnut liqueur, even smooth and milky, with lightly toasted and grainy malts below it. Medium bodied with very long, warming walnut finish. Hard to guess the base was only the pale lager, except it seemed a bit unbalanced that way. I’m sure the base of their dark winter lager would be a much better choice. Decent and well made, but quite specific, very close to the liqueur that most of the people either love or hate. Needless to say, it’s a slow going brew, inadequate for festivals, rather an evening chill. Would be nice to see it bottled one day, in any combination.

Hazy, brown colored, medium white head. Aroma is of strong walnut liquor, some malt and bit caramel, some herbal notes. Taste is medium sweet malt, some herbal notes, again overwhelming walnut. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Better to just drink the liqueur. Makes no sense in wasting it in this blend because the lager brings nothing! Imperial stout w Walnuts, now that’s something I wouldn’t mind seeing! (on tap, Beeryard Festival, Zagreb)

BeerYard Zagreb. Murky gray-brown body with a white head. Mild, pleasant walnut aroma. Lovely, full on walnut cake / orahovac blast in the taste, mild and sweetish. An in-keg blend that actually works! The first pourings are liquid bliss, even better and more pungent than this.
