The 2014 Double DBA imperial special bitter is Firestone Walker’s flagship DBA brewed at double strength, using twice the amount of malts and hops. As with the regular DBA, the 2014 Double DBA was partially fermented in a union of new American oak barrels. After fermentation, the beer was racked and returned to the union barrels as well as bourbon barrels, where it aged for one year. The barrel mix for the 2014 Double DBA included vessels from Woodford Reserve, Elijah Craig and Four Roses.

Bomber through a trade with beercation. Firestone Double DBA 12% 2014 A lovely clear Amber color with a wispy beige head. A fantastic malty sweet aroma, a bit of booze and spice. Raspy carbonation on a medium body. The taste is sweet, caramel, nutty, biscuit, malty with some berry notes. As it warms up you get sweet caramel whiskey notes. Really good stuff.

Poured from bottle for the Ratebeer Camp extravaganza. Pours rich copper with a nice off white head. Aromas of bread malt and caramel. Taste is caramel bread toffee and dark fruit with a nice hint of bourbon. I like this beer. Updated rating off 2013 bottle which is amazing.

2014 Vintage. Surprised it took me so long to tick this one! Poured like a barleywine. Hazy, burnt orange, 2 finger off white head. Aroma is sweet with caramel, persimmon, apples and raisins. barrel character is light. taste is good. Very thin mouthfeel and carbonation. Lots of sweet, burnt oak, vanilla, toasted nuts. like a baby barley wine and the 12% ABV is very well hidden.

Lots of caramel and candied malt. Pours ruby without much head or lacing. A fair amount of barrel. Sweet finish with lots of booze. A little on the syrupy side. Tap at Churchkey.

Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of nice caramelized malt with nice toffee notes and light residual sugar notes. Taste is also dominated by caramelized malt with some toffee notes, light biscuit notes and just the right amount of residual sugar. Body is about average with good carbonation and light warming alcohol. This beer is super well-balanced with just the right amount of complexity and great drinkability.
