Our take on a new & innovative style coming out of San Fransico - The BRUT IPA - An extremely dry (below the density of water) IPA with a subdued bitterness. Dubbed "The new champagne of beer" - Hints of citrus, gooseberries, white grapes, and a bit of petrol. Pale as straw, bone dry and gives the impression of high effervescence. It sounds like a brut, of course, but not of the variety that Champagne lovers seek. Extremely dry, super refreshing, absolutely thirst-quenching, sessionable as sin. This is beer's answer to champagne and our answer to all of the hazyboi murky hop bombs of late.

Old notes from the summer of 2018, a sample at the brewery. Hazy pale greenish-yellow to pale golden colour, small white head. The aroma is moderately hoppy, citrusy, yeasty with a herbal touch. Quite a mild aroma turns to a firm bitterness, herbal and very dry with a grainy malty backbone. Light to medium body, moderate carbonation, light completely dry finish. Not everyone's favourite but good execution of the style.

On tap at the brewery. Clear pale yellow/golden coloured, minimal white head, mild fruity hoppy nose. Fruity and citrusy hoppy, mild notes of yeast and touch of alcohol with dryish bitter finish. Interesting and good.

Tap at Garden Bar & Kitchen. Quite clear yellow-golden, lasting white head. Initially quite fruity, but later on somewhat herbal and dusty aroma. Nice light-dry taste, showing some soft citric fruity hoppiness before a strong herbal kick. The IBUs here are definitely naked, and the stated thirty feel stronger than double that normally are. Not a bad take, quite unique in spite of seeming slightly conservative taste-wise. Glad to have tried it!
