Kiwi Pale Ale. This serious Kiwi pale ale using Pacific Jade and Pacifica hops packs a punch on the palate. A southern Hemisphere alternative to the usual pale ales.

Bottle at home in London - picked up from the "Drinkers’ Paradise". Pours perfectly clear, deep gold with an attractive white foam head that fades away - not dissimilar to one’s hopes when they enter the Paradise. This beer smells pretty bad, like rotting grains, raw sugars, ripe berries, plum; come to think of it, this beer smells like kvass. Medium sweet flavor with lots ripe fruits, bready malts, grape, more berries, some brown sugar, caramel, fruitcake. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Doughy, sugary bread dominates the finish, with a whole bundle of ripe, rotting fruits joining in the fun. Lingering notes of rotten, mouldy grains, cheap bread, ripe orange. There are suggestions of a decent beer here at times, but mostly this stuff is fairly vile.

Cask at the Victory Inn, Brighton. It pours golden amber with a small white head. The nose is toasty, grain, hay, biscuit, flour and hob nobs. The taste is crisp, bitter, dough, juicy citrus, toast, light soap and white grape skin with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. A decent golden ale.
