Bottled. Dark brown, no head. Rich coffee aroma. Sweetish with medium body and clean mouthfeel, no carbonation. Limp and syrupy with cardamom and caramel. No bitterness.

330ml bottle: BBD Feb 2014, poured into a Gordon’s Thistle shaped glass on 30 Aug 2013. Exceedingly dark body with a full but fairly thin tanned head. Intense rich coffee aroma and taste, as you’d expect by the name on the bottle. Dark chocolate and cocoa flavours vie with the coffee to give a smell and flavour very similar to a Greek ’Frappe’ without any milk. Not as creamy and rich in texture as the nose suggested, the body depth being my only negative thought on the brew. Both interesting and worth finding (if you like coffee).

Bottiglia: really very dark amber coloured, some reddish sparks visible, small tanned foamy layer, sweetish coffeeish-roasty nose, moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied; slightly lingering and a bit drier roasty-coffeish finish. Not bad, but way too sweet…

Weich herb und röstig malziger Antrunk. Die Röstigkeit steigt nur leicht, deutliche Kaffeenoten sind präsent. Bitterschokokade, harmonisch, zum Ende schwächer. Würzig, süffig, gut. 8/11/11/12/12/12

330ml bottle. Clear darkest brwon colour with small, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Spicy, roasty, dark malty aroma with an intense lovage note, burnt malt. Taste is roasty dark malty, subtle sweetness, coffee notes become clearer in the finish. Not completely convincing.

(bottle, 33cl) Almost black colour with a brown and short foamy head. Strong espresso aroma with notes of milky chocolate and a touch of roasty malt. Sweet-bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Profound coffee and chocolate flavours with a quite sweet and roasty bitter malty body, getting slightly slim towards the finish. Aromatic brew but the flavours do not perfectly fit together. 04.II.13

From a 330ml bottle on 31/1/2013. Pours close to black with little head. Has a fabulously strong aroma of tiramisu, dripping with creamy coffee and chocolate. The tiramisu translates to the flavour, which is pleasant, but somehow doesn’t quite nail it. There’s lots of coffee and some chocolatey sweetness but it lacks a little on the roasty/bitter side of things. It’s a bit like a decent espresso that could be just a little bit stronger. Still, it’s interesting and the aroma is sublime.

Bottles from Sainsbury’s - on a special offer (80p), and now I see why! Coffee detectable in the aroma, but fainter than I might have expected, something metallic going on. Looks OK for the style. Tastes like coffee sweeties though, not beer. Palate manages to be both thin and sticky, aftertaste quite bad.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Black pour with a tan head. Heavy coffee aroma. Sweet coffee flavour. Given it’s one dimensional angle it was quite a passable brew.
