Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol, March 2015. Deep brown in colour, with a decent, off-white, head. Liquorice, black berry fruits, some toasty malts and a dryish finish. Good.

Cask pint in the Victoria Station Wetherspoons on 28th March 2015. Red hue to the very dark mahogany body: on top a creamy tanned head. Malts all the way here, with some heavy fruit flavours thrown into the ambers of the burning pit. Decent and interesting: most likely my favourite beer of the festival (only tried about 18).

Cask at jdw. Dark brown mahogany brown coloured pour with a sticky greyish cream head. Aroma is nutty, raisin, little choc, berry, dusty. Flavour follows, nutty, dry choc, dry wood. Palate is medium body, decent cask condition. OK beer. Bit old and dusty.

On cask at the Standing Order. Appearance - close to black but with some red chinks. Nice fawn head. Nose - earthy, otherwise elusive. Taste - hold on, didn’t expect a marmalade note. Actually going into a herb and Grand Marnier thing. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - not a typical stout. But good. A bit of barley wine in there - presumably something to do with strength and malt bill m

Cask at the Spoons in short distance from Craft Clerko. Thanks to Fargus. It pours deep brown with a medium beige head. The nose is earthy, mild acidity, toast, liquorice and dark fruits. The taste is bitter, mild acidity, ashy, eaarth, dark fruits, berry, liquorice and leather with a very dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Decent enough stout.
