This unusual black beer, brewed exclusivey for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival, uses huge amounts of wheat malt, as well as roast barley, to create a biscuity
smoothness, balanced by a generous hopping, leading to a dry, smooth and refreshing character.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol, March 2015. Near black in colour, with a decent, off-white, head. Plain chocolate and roasted malts, with a slight lactose tang before a toasty finish, with a hint of warming alcohol. Enjoyable.

Cask half pint at Wetherspoons, Victoria Station, London. Black colour, creamy beige head. Pleasant aroma of moderately roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, citrus and mild spices. Smooth flavour, citrus and spices on top of roast malts and coffee. Unusual, interesting - and good. Dry aftertaste.

Cask @ The Forty Foot, Dun Laoghaire JDW [020415]
Black, dense tan head, good lacing
Aroma of dark malts, soft cereal, some chocolate
Taste of dark malts, dark chocolate, soft roast, some sour fruits, tastes old
Palate - Medium body, smooth texture, quite sweet.
Overall - This was on the top floor and past it’s best. Some sourish fruits in there. Think this would have been great if it was fresh. What a shame.

Hamilton Hall. Spoons. Cask. Almost opaque dark brown beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light, dry and a little crisp. The dark malts are biscuity, traces of smoke and lactose. Mild floralness. Light dry finish. Mild roasty linger. Interesting if a bit dry.

Cask at William Jolle (Spoons), Northwood Hills. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium off white head on top. Roasty, malty, caramel aroma. Tastes vaguely similar, slightly roasty, malty, caramel but also quite sour. Another one served in rather poor condition. This would probably be decent if well kept.
