Cask special for Wetherspoons International Real Ale Festival March 2015.
Jesse Houck has travelled to Adnams Brewery, in Suffolk, to brew this beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. This light-coloured pale ale has a light malt body, accentuated by its rich, spicy hop characteristics, while the addition of Mocha Sidamo Ethiopian coffee lends a floral fruit and berry nose.
Hops used: Phoenix

Cask @ White Swan (JDW), Islington N1. Pours a slightly hazy yellow golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty coffee aroma. Fruity malty coffee flavor with hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty coffee finish.

Cask @ The Forty Foot, Dun Laoghaire JDW [020415]
Light golden, clear, thin white head
Aroma of soft citrus hops, light coffee, pale sweet malts
Taste of soft citrus hops, dab of soft coffee roast which was noticeable straight away, soft sweet light pale malts
Palate - Medium body, light sweet. Finish as main flavour with that hint of coffee roast.
Overall - Good idea. Worked well as the coffee was subtle.

Cask @ The Willow Walk, London. Golden with a small head. The coffee aroma and taste are good, so much so I had to check around me to see if anyone was drinking the stuff near me that may be affecting my senses. The coffee is dry and subtle in its taste, with a texture and mouthfeel similar to other golden ales.

Hamilton Hall. Spoons. Cask. Almost clear yellow gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, mild fine carbonation. Light and sweetish pale malts. Floral sweetness. Light but obvious earthy coffee. Very mild citrus before a light semi dry finish. Fairly drinkable but could really use more hops.

Cask at the white lady. Pours clear pale gold, thin white head. Light floral aromas, not much else. Taste is light pale malt, chalky lemon. Clean finish, bit dull.

Cask at The Metropolitan, Baker Street, London. A golden coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Fruity, coffee, spice aroma. Tastes similar, fruity, coffee, spice. Quite an interesting one this and definitely the best of the fest for me.

On cask at the Standing Order. Appearance - golden with a thin head. Nose - quite elusive but there are gentle floral notes. Taste - completely different. Caramel shortbread but without the chocolate. Then the coffee hits at the end and the reason for it being a breakfast beer becomes apparent. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - unusual to use a blonde beer as the base for a coffee beer but this works.
