This rarely seen beer has been brewed again especially for the Wetherspoon 2011 real-ale festival. This chestnut-coloured mild ale has a delicate hop aroma, leading to a well-rounded, malty flavour, subtle bitterness and rich, biscuity finish.

Hops: Challenger, Northern Brewer

[Cask at Wetherspoons, Milton Keynes] Deep amber (paler than your normal modern mild) with a slight off-white head. Chocolate with a dusty bitterness, not bad at all.

Cask at The Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Pours clear amber with a small, white head. Light, toasted malt nose with faint caramel. Mildly sweet flavor, light caramel, toast, faint herbal hops. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Toast, bread, light sweet finish. Fine.

Cask at Penderel’s Oak, Holborn, London. An amber/chestnut coloured pour with a medium off white head. Malty, fruity aroma. Tastes malty, fruity, caramel, slight bitterness. Quite pleasant and one of the better ales at this fest.

Cask handpull at Baker Street Spoons. Clear chestnut colour with sparse off white head. Malty aroma. Ooh yes now that I do like a proper brown bitter with just a hint of diacetyl. Full malty caramel and some abrasive bitterness on finish. Nice to have a malty bitter after so many golden ales
