When we first brewed this Hazy Double IPA years ago we had a lot of explaining to do. A lot of people were put off by the deep haze of this beer, the soft and chewy body and the wild tropical fruit aromas from modern hops and expressive yeast. The original description even had a tongue-in-cheek declaration that we are “just kids doing kid stuff!”

Can, at Matt's
Blond colour, cloudy to murky, compact head. The aroma is dank; pine, incense, touch of vanilla, orange creamsicle. Good body, mild residual sweetness, creamy mouthfeel; a bit of starch, but it's not too chalky; a bit of fruit in the beginning, passion fruit, then some pith in the finish.
Pretty good.

16oz can. Pours hazy yellow with white head. Aroma has some grapefruit, a bit floral. Flavour is also pretty citrus forward; a bit murky. More juice than hops.

16oz (thx, Brian!) @ Matt's house. Variant with Strata, Equanot, Citra, Simcoe & Galaxy. Appearance: cloudy golden with a white head. Aroma: tropical fruits, some sweetness, a bit earthy. Taste: along the same lines, nice juiciness, no bitterness. Overall: good one (just a bit thin for DIPA).

16 oz. can, pours an opaque yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of stone fruit pith, some light dankness, a touch of citrus, and tropical notes. Flavour is somewhat juicy, with tropical fruits, stone fruit pith, some sweetness, and I guess some hops (?). Very fruity and juicy, but lacks hops. Not what I want, but it's fine for the style.

Opaque. Thick head. Pale. Fairly strong alcohol, has a nice fruity hop note on the nose. On the palate, soft body, and nice stone fruit character. Quality.

Sample at the tap room. Hazy orange-gold color with a medium thin white head that burns away steadily to a film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of tropical fruit, hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of citrusy hops, bready malt and caramel. The finish is moderately bitter with a tropical fruit and hops aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Batch 3. On tap at the brewery. The beer is a darkened orange yellow color. Pretty cloudy, not quite opaque. The aroma is big on orange, pineapple, mango, kiwi, raspberry and melon. Light pale malt sweetness. A touch of booze, not bad. Taste is mildly bitter upfront with a little more in the finish. Lots of wonderful hop fruitiness comes through. Nice hop oily feel. Low astringency. Quite good.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle. Aroma is super hoppy and fruity. Tons of mango, papaya, guava, passion fruit and melon with moderate citrus notes of orange and tangerine. Medium light resinous hop notes. Light cracker malt notes hiding behind the hops. Pours a fairly hazy, golden orange with a medium sized, thick, white head that shows nice retention as it slowly recedes to the edges. Medium lacing and small legs. Flavor has a light sweetness with some cracker malt notes and a hint of caramel. Medium high bitterness with some light alcohol notes in the finish. High amount of hop flavors. Hops are more resinous than in the aroma with a stronger citrus note of orange and tangerine. Still tons of mango, passion fruit, guava and melon though. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low but present alcohol warmth. Overall, a very nice IPA with tons of amazing hop character, especially in the aroma. So much bright tropical fruit wiht just enough malt and mouthfeel to carry it all.
