Yet again Hardknott has done it. We’ve been bold, cheeky and just a little bit silly.
We wanted to show what could be done completely with southern hemisphere hops in a nice big double IPA, hence Elixir of Invincibility was born.
Nose of bananas and pineapple smuggled under a grass skirt, followed by a teaser of biscuit with a crashing wave of fruity hop bitterness and a 10 mile long finish. At least that’s what our tasting panel came up with after several bottles. But then, you can imaging anything after several bottles of a 7.3% beer.
We did make a film, with tenuous links to invincibility, dragons, and various fantasy nonsense. But no goblins. Very definitely no goblins. And the biscuits in the tasting notes are not hobwhatitsnames either.

Keg at CBC Clerko, 10/03/15. Clear golden with a moderate off white covering. Nose is straw, bitter orange, light grapefruit,, mango. Taste comprises pale malt, orange, caramel, bread dough, melon, trace of grapefruit zest. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light booze and earthy hops in the close. Lower end of the IPA spectrum a touch muddled.

Keg at CBC Islington. Clear golden / light orange colored poor with a lasting white creamy head. Aroma is subdued grassy hop, wet hop, wet grains, little lemon citrus. Flavour is composed of semi sweet biscuity grains, assertive pithy grapefruit and wet grass. Really bitter hop, which is somewhat out of balanced. Lingering plastic and hot solvent alcohol. Palate is nice airy carbonation, slightly creamy on the tongue, little sweetness. Really out of balance and too much alcohol.

Keg at CBC Clerkenwell - London. Pours clear, bright gold with a creamy white head. The nose holds some pine needles, light melon, lemon pith. Medium sweet flavor with slight caramel, some bread and alcohol, leaf, pine, grain. Medium bodiednwith fine to average carbonation. Resinous finish with some boozy warmth, grainy bread, more leafy hops. Uninspiring.

Keg at Hardknott on Track. Very clear mid to dark yellow. Leaves, pine, citrus peel on the nose. The taste starts out sweet, and then the bitterness hits. Very dry hopped; the hop oils are incredibly intense... extremely dry bitter finish. Well-made and immensely enjoyable, although I prefer more aroma and less bitterness in the hop profile.

Craft near Tottenham Court.Road war zone. Keg. Bright clear gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light, dry and minerally crisp. Light pale malts, mild sweetness. Hops are pretty bitter, floral bitter with mild citrus and hop spice. Dry crisp finish. Harsh bitternes lingers. Plenty of hop here but of the bitter bastard variety!
