Bottle from Budgens, Swanage. Burnt caramel and cloves, underlying sweet banana puree, in the aroma. As I go in for seconds I pick up coffee. Opaque dark brown. For the style it is surprisingly clear. Very thin and patchy translucent white head. Initial sour edged bitternes. The latter gets stronger. Grainy. Charcoal. Sour berries. Cloves most prominent into the finish. The vaguest traces of underlying sweetness want to be heard but are smothered. Medium bodied. Slick to creamy. Average carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. Not a classic of the style in my limited experience - more like a cross with a straight up Dunkel, perhaps. Still, enjoyable enough.
