Cask at the brewery taproom. First of all, calling this is an ’imperial IPA’ is laughable. It boggles the mind how a brewery down the street from A&H, BBNo and Kernel could be so disconnected. Anyway. The beer pours clear, deep gold with a creamy topping. Some fruity hops in the nose, berries and grapes, leaves, toasted bread. Medium sweet flavor with grainy toast, earth, dirty leaves, old orange rind, grass. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Strongly bitter finish, grassy and leafy, with dried berries, toasted grainy bread, husk, rind. To be fair, the beer isn’t bad, but this is basically just an ESB, perhaps just a little more hoppy. Let’s call it an ’imperial bitter’, though, which might be more apt.
