Draft. A pitch black beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of mocha, coffee beans, chocolate, and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of mocha, alcohol, roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee beans, leading to a dry coffee finish.

Cask at the King William IV Bunny Basher - 30/03/13. Mid black with a good sized tan head that retains well. The nose was a little thin and lacking in depth for a 9% beer, roast malt, dark chocolate evident but little else and not packing the punch Iโ€™d expected. Taste comprises milk chocolate, lactose, coffee cake, roast malt, touch peppery and some spice, warming booze. Full in body, smooth and luxurious on the palate in the way that only a well kept cask beer can deliver, spot on in this respect. Decent!

Cask in the Cock Tavern. Opaque black beer, tidy tan head. Palate is softish with mild carbonation. Light touch of the dark malts, a little dry lactose and a vague touch of roast. Very mellow coffee on the back end before quite a sweet and sour malt finish - smooth. A trace of bitter ash in the aftertaste is unwelcome but otherwise light on itโ€™s toes and tasty. 3.6

At the KWIV Brewpub. Somewhat sweet and sour coffee, a little tang and earthyness. Trace of something chocolate. Nice generic fruitiness. Semi dry finish. Much better all rounded second time around.

Cask at the Cock Tavern, London. Pours black-brown with a fine, beige foam head. Hefty aroma of sugary dark chocolate and freshly-brewed coffee. Hugely sweet flavor with rich espresso, brownies, dark chocolate, chocolate syrup, light roasted malts. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lughtly warming finish, sticky sweet, with heavy chocolate, fresh espresso, mild bitterness of earth and burnt wood. The alcohol is pretty well hidden. Tons of true mocha character for sure. Very sweet but not cloying - thereโ€™s some coffee bitterness that cuts into the sugars nicely. Great beer.
