Keg at MK VHX, 18/12/17. Pitch black with a dirty tan head that retains well. Nose is rich dark fruits, roast malts, molasses, tar, treacle, black peppery spice. Taste comprises treacle toffee, liquorice stick, Xmas pudding, hint of dark chocolate, spice, charr, roast malts. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a rising boost. Not the most complex impy but a decent enough sipper and holds together well.

Keg at Mother Kelly’s, Vauxhall, London. A black coloured pour with a healthy beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate, coffee aroma. Tastes roasty, malty, chocolate, coffee, bitter/sweet. This one started off well but I found a third of a pint quite hard going. Nice idea though.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. KeyKeg. Opaque dark brown beer, tidy tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, decent (but not excessive) fine carbonation. Juicy dark malts, some roasty bitterness. Spicy licorice. Dark chocolate, fruity. More spicy licorice. Crisp finish. Well it’s certainly flavoursome but it wants something sweeter in here. The roast and licorice got slightly opressive after a while.

Keg at the Cock Tavern - Hackney. Pours oily black with a dense, creamy beige head. Rich dark malt aroma, with hearty roast, cocoa, burnt marshmallows. Medium sweet flavour with low of bitter, ashy roast character, some gooey chocolate, dried cherries, earth. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish with some woody dryness, toasted coconut, more hearty bittersweet dark chocolate, dried berries, moderate bitterness. Overall, a solid impy stout.
