While the brewery bakes under a blistering summer sun our thoughts turned to that most classic of summer beers; the Saison. Acrobat is our first interpretation of a traditional Saison; dry, fruity and a little spicy with a high carbonation designed to refresh after long days out in the sun. We added Apricot during fermentation to enhance the aromatic esters from the classic Dupont yeast and a little tarragon in conditioning for a subtle hint of anise. The sun doesn’t shine much in Huddersfield, but when it does, we’re head over heels!

Keg at the Earl of Essex, 10/09/14. Very lightly hazed golden with a well appointed off white covering that retains well. Nose is spice, lemon rind, herbal notes, bitter tangerine. Taste comprises bitter apricot, spice, hay, lemon rind, floral effect, herbals. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Refreshing saison - decent.

On tap at Euston Tap. Some banana ester hefe I guess. Light hefe. Quite drinkable but lacks the risk of a german. Good hops on the finish. I cant tell you why I like it but I do.

Tap at the earl of Essex. Hazed burnt orange coloured pour with a lasting off white cap. Aroma is herbal, juicy fruits, plum and apricot with some cooked squash. Some Belgian funk on the nose as well. Flavour is grainy, bready malts with a touch of rye bread then a savoury herbal note. Fruits and subdued in the flavour with some apricot. Considerable Belgian yeast character and the ferment is nice and clean. Hint of funk. Palate is very highly carbonated, crisp finish and grainy on the tongue. Interesting well brewed beer, not sure I like the herbal character.

Keg at Borefts beer fest day 2 27/09/2014. Bodegraven. 7 4 7 4 15

Keg. Leeds IBF. Cloudy, orange colour. White, bubbly head. Definitely smells the sum of its parts. Medicinal, aniseed herb, and soft, sweet fruit. Taste is dry, lightly tart, with a hint of sweet. Lots of body, accentuated by the soft carbonation. Bittersweet finish. Big and tasty.
