The XXK is the second beer in the winter range and along with malted barley incorporates malted wheat to add a silky texture and give a creamy head. The Bramling Cross hops provide distinctive berry aromas.

Expect aromas of warming spice, red berry fruits and subtle caramel notes. On the palate this beer is smooth with hints of candied orange and a balanced bittersweet finish coming from the British hops and malts.

Pint at the Ship. Dark amber, some light peeking through, small cap of foamy head. Aroma is faint malts. Taste picks up a bit, but not enough to raise this past average. Not getting any of the winter spice.

Malty, fruity taste with notes of dried fruit, black-currant, blackberries, orange marmalade and a balanced citric bitterness. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Tasty and well balanced winter ale. Nice one.

Cask at Spread Eagle. It pours clearing red - amber with a medium off-white head. The aroma is earthy, working spice, bit of toffee, caramel and red fruit. The taste is dry, rather bitter, plenty of spice, peppery, red berry, cranberry, wood and tannin with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Fair enough. A bit too spicy to be overly drinkable, but it's not bad.
