Medium dark brown color. Funky sweet nose with brownies, aniseed and whiskey, but just ever so slight. The mouth is rounded, full bodied, but a lot of parts going on, with roasted malt, brownies, aniseed, whiskey, moderately strong yeasty character. Light burn on the tongue from alcohol. Warming finish with lots of a dry funky saison yeast, aniseed and whiskey. Odd combo, but I liked it

Thanks TimE for the bottle! Poured into a pilsner showing coffee brown with half a finger of quickly dissipating latte colored foam. The nose shows roasted malts with big bourbon barrel notes of vanilla, charred wood, and light smoke. Upon warming up the Belgian yeast notes become much more apparent. The palate is full bodied and fully carbonated. Immediately shows flavors of vanilla and roasted coffee-like malt. Alcoholic spice becomes much more apparent on mid-palate with the lightly sweet Belgian yeast influence appearing. The finish shows a big bitterness of bourbon. Big and complex but the flavors do not work terribly well together. For a dark saison, this drinks much closer to a fresh quad.

Isseki Sancho, On tap at Craft Beer Holiday.

This BA version of Shiga Kogen’s Isseki Nicho pours a deep dark brown with a light tan head. The aroma is rich molasses, oak, chocolate and spice. Medium to full bodied. It is sweetly oaky, malty chocolate, sharp citrus and whiskey. Awesome stuff. Ap 4 ar 8 t 9 p 4 o 15

Tap at CBM Kichijoji. Lots of blueberry and wild berry on the nose, creme brulee almost. Light saison yeast as it warms up, cacao marshmallows. Some honey and cognac like texture on the palate. Light whisky notes on the finish. Not as much barrel character as I would have hoped. Quite carbonated. Complex, but feels kind of unfinished on tap. --- Beer merged from original tick of Isseki Sancho (一石三鳥) (2016) on 22 Apr 2016 at 19:39 - Score: 8. Original review text: Lots of berries, Creme brûlée, Molasses...cognac. Some saison yeast notes. Cacao, marshmallow. Complex with a splash of bourbon. Warming.

Tap at Osaka Castle. Black, cloudy, lacy head. Nose of whiskey, chocolate, minerals. Spicy flavor from the Belgian yeast; licorice, chocolate, whisky. Very good amount of whisky in there. On tap it was just a bit too fizzy, which should probably work itself out in the bottled very and with a little time. Still, and very nice beer.
