Keg at Berts Bar.... It pours clear amber with a thick, creamy white head. The nose is toasty grain, cereal and generic maltiness. The taste is creamy, lightly toasted grain, touch sweetness, cereal and really not much else. Short finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Looks good, but rather bland indeed. Inoffensive.

Tap at the Plockton Hotel, Plockton because ladies and gentlemen a rate is a fucking rate ! 19/10/13. Clear copper golden with a good sized light beige top. Nose is pretty anaemic, light malts, cereals. Taste comprises a hint of toffee, grassy, light cereals. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, touch of bitterness at the closure. A dull bland affair.

Keg pint at Altamount Hotel. Pours golden brown with good white head. Low malty aromas. A little bitterness if you look for it. Not exciting, but better than I thought it was going to be!

Keg @ Jackson's Bar, Glasgow. Smooth ale with a dark golden glow and a thick creamy head. Has a fair malty-bitterness.

Dark colour with an off white head. Mild malty aroma. Bready and some roasted malt in the flavour. A bit thin texture.

On tap in Gretna. A very pretty looking beer but very drab after that. Not one to rave about.

On tap @ Bert’s Bar. Pours dark amber with a decent head. The nose has toffee, some spice and sweet malt. The taste has more of the sweet malt and toffee with a slight astringency towards the end. The palate is medium in body, creamy in texture and as mentioned already, a slight malt bitterness rather than any hop freshness at the end. Overall, it’s another mediocre offering from the makers of Tennents.

Keg @ Bridge Inn, Peebles 230512
Brown honey colour, clear, thick white head
Aroma - light cereal malts, light hops, slighty metallic
Taste - light cereal malts, light caramel malts, slight hint of bitter hops, hint of honey, touch of popcorn, light biscuit, bit of metal
Palate - medium carb, bit fizzy, thin body, watery. Finish as main flavour, rapid, boring.
Overall - It’s the competition for Belhaven Best - is it better....er no....it’s just as dull and mediocre
