This new ruby-black beer, inspired by the brewing styles of 18th-century London, has a spicy aroma, leading to sumptuous mocha flavours – silky on the palate and with a complex, yet mellow, finish.

Cask at Teuchters Landings , Edinburgh-Leith, Sunday 20th March 2016 in the company of Dad and Barry. Pours dark chestnut in colour with a reddy glint and a little light beige rim. Sweet nutty and malty with a little bit of a fruity edge. I guess that this is a reasonable approximation of a London Porter. Fine. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol, March 2015. Near black in colour, with a decent, beige, head. Tart blackcurrants, coffee beans, and some plain chocolate, before a dryish finish. A contender for my beer of the festival.

Bottle from Drinkmonger. Opaque dark brown body with a large beige head that holds well. Good lacing. Aroma of ash, blackcurrant, coffee granules and a hint of vanilla. Flavour of dark chocolate, plum and brambles. Thin to medium body with a creamy texture. Light fizz. A really tasty Porter. I’d like to try this on cask.

Cask at Nairn beer fest. It pours deep brown with a bubbly beige head. The nose is earthy roast, freshly ground coffee, hint of cocoa and pepper. The taste is bitter, roasty, charred earth, ash, pepper, big coffee character with a dry, earthy finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Tasty stuff. A good porter for sure.

On cask at the Standing Order. Appearance - close to black but with lovely red hues. A nice creamy head. Nose - milk chocolate and coffee. Taste - very creamy. Intermingled milk chocolate and caramel and honeycomb. Crunchie Bar again. Palate - medium to full bodied with a creamy texture and a balanced finish. Overall - a really beautiful beer.
