From cask at In de Wildeman. Opaque black with a fluffy, brown head. Sweetish, roasty-malty aroma of coffee, milk chocolate, blackberries and hints of peat. Sweetish, roasty-malty taste of coffee, milk chocolate, nougat and some peat, followed by a medium long, roasty-bitter, slightl peated finish. Medium to full body, creamy mouthfeel, flat. Good!

At Billies Bierkafetaria in Antwerp, draught. Very dense and thick, elaborately lacing, pale beige head over a jet black beer. Rich and attractive aroma of cocoa nibs, cured meat, dried seaweed, hazelnuts, ’natural’ iron, blackberry, baker’s chocolate, ’animalistic’ but well-integrated horse stable accent. Intense meaty umami flavour in onset with well-dosed candied sweetness, medium carbo, very nutty and caramelly, thick maltiness, becoming more and more chocolatey as the palate progresses with roasted bitterness pairing nicely with the lingering ’beefy’ umami flavours, peppery hop bitterness and warming, whisky-like alcohol. Very accomplished (as usual for this brewery) with a delicious balance of sweet, bitter and umami with just a hint of sourness.
