Cherry Wood Ya Honey is a burly wheat wine style ale. Brewed with copious amounts of local honey, carefully selected specialty malts, and pacific northwest hops. The aging of this brew in bourbon barrels with cherries elevates the rich caramel/honey character to luscious heights. Pour into your favorite snifter, let warm, sip, and allow your belly to surrender in the comforting embrace of craft.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle, vintage 2011. Aroma is malty with quite a bit of caramel and toffee. A nice cherry aroma with moderate bourbon and oak notes. Medium light alcohol spice. Pours a cloudy burnt amber with a small tan head that recedes to the edges where it lingers. Light lacing and medium legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with quite a bit of malt character. Lots of caramel and toffee. Medium light cherry notes with some bourbon and oak. Medium bitterness and medium light alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a better beer than the Bourbon Berry Grove. Not amazing though, and I don’t think the fruit adds much beneficial character. As it warms it gets better but it also gets a bit medicinal.

Bottle. Hazy deep ruby liquid with medium light tan head. Aroma of cherries, wood, toffee, bread, raw sugar, lemon and bourbon. Taste is dry, light bitter and light sour with notes of wood, cherries, lemon and toffee. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Probably infected, but still nice.

Sample at the Blarney Wine tasting on 03/16/2013: The beer pours a clear dark amber color with a minimal white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of cherries, malt and wood. Full-bodied with flavors of mildly tart cherry, oak, caramel and toasted malt. The finish is fruity with a slight bourbon aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Big thanks to dcschiller for opening this, and waiting to open it when I was around, thanks Dave! It pours deep copper with thin tan head. The aroma offers up sweetness, fresh oak and then a modest level of apple and peach esteriness in the background. The taste has pleasing balance where a firm degree of cherry and cherry skin tartness tries to dominate the flavor but some malty like sweetness and sweet dark fruity esters lead into some smooth modest bourbon notes into the finish. Solid!

Bottle #32 of 204. Pours dark amber brown with tan head. Nose/taste of toffee, caramel, honey, dried wood, bourbon barrel, cherry pits and apple cores. Velvety texture with the perfect hint of cherry in the finish. Subtle and not overpoweringly fruity, the cherries provide the perfect accent to another solid beer from Jackie O’s.
