A Belgian Quad by recipe, but aging it in spirits barrels garners its own category: Central Coast Quad. A beer formulated to sit on the sweeter and malty side so that we could utilize it for blending. Turbinado brown sugar from Mexico and Belgian candi sugar add wonderful molasses flavors. It has a full body and lush texture with barrel expression all over this beer: toasted oak, coconut, leather and cigar tobacco.

Dark mahogany colour, half inch of creamy beige head; aroma of dried cherry soaked into liqueur, burnt plum jam, dark chocolate, vanilla and caramel, as well as bourbon notes; taste has the same notes with herbal liqueur and slight licoric; definite sticke mouthfeel and spicy alcoholic aftertaste; it's a miracle rather than a beer!

Refrigerated brown bomber poured into a Trappist glass. Dark brown with small beige head. Aroma is raisin, medium body, medium carbonation, and pretty good lacing. Taste is dark fruit (mostly raisin), dark candy sugar, tobacco, and a little booze.

Backlog.

Bottle pour into whisky glass from Valley Beverage (2018 vintage). Appearance is clear dark brown with magenta/purple hues with no sparkle, thin ring of beige head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong, rich caramel, fruit and bourbon. Taste is smooth bourbon; caramel is more in the background than aroma and fruit even moreso. Palate is medium bodied with smooth, thick texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, I wish the taste had been as balanced as the aroma (and, perhaps with age it would) but even so the straighter bourbon is still delicious. A delight to drink.

Gott
