A Belgian Quad by recipe, but aging it in spirits barrels garners its own category: Central Coast Quad. A beer formulated to sit on the sweeter and malty side so that we could utilize it for blending. Turbinado brown sugar from Mexico and Belgian candi sugar add wonderful molasses flavors. It has a full body and lush texture with barrel expression all over this beer: toasted oak, coconut, leather and cigar tobacco.

2017 edition. Pours very dark brown, small, lightly tanned head that has some, but no great stability. Smell is sweet, dark sugar, aromatic, dark malts, mild barrel aroma, bourbon if you'd ask me. Taste is full, sweet, packing a punch of booze, but not botheringly so. The basebeer works fantastic together with the barrel. Some vanilla, some earhtyness, mild chocolate, bit caramel notes, all very natural. Amazing balance. Goddamn, Firestone walker are king of the barrel aged, balanced beers.

(355ml 2017 bottle from Systembolaget) Pours very deep brown with a small but well-lasting off-white head. Aroma is intense quite sweet brown sugar, toffee, dried fruit (dates/figs), orange peels, oak, moderate bourbon, light coconut. Flavour is quite sweet up front, brown sugar, toffee, orange peels, Manhattan cocktail, soft nutty roast, ample wood, dried fruit, a little spicebox, drying spirits, tobacco, leather, hints of chocolate, finishing lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Medium-full, oily, very softly carbonated with a touch of alcohol heat. Surprisingly excellent albeit non-traditional quad; it's not a style I go to when looking for new beers now but I'm impressed.
