#555 Belgian Strong Ale. 750 ml. bottle. Purchased @ De Hopduvel. BBF 12/2016. First time that I have seen a Den Triest beer at a store, I have seen a commissioned beer once but that is it. Sparkling close to clear golden, small, uneven solid egg-white head consisting of small bubbles. Nose is banana, BE yeast, lightly soapy, odd floral, plastic, grass, light fish guts nose, light chemicals, must be the Belgian hops that the label boosts about. Taste is banana, plastic, odd fish guts, chemicals, grass, esters, floral, the hops are very weird & don’t work, you get this weird plastic, heavily chemical, insecticide, bitterness aftertaste,… Lightly fizzy, plastic, yeasty,… lightly effervescent, neat body. People keep pushing the odd idea that any beer with any hops in large amounts will be fun but IPA’s & their consorts actually make sense and are well-thought if they are good. That is just my personal opinion & preference. I suppose not everyone can be De Ranke or De La Senne. I do feel like a lot of Belgian brewers are still confused as to why USA style hoppy beers work & are loved by people. Once again, just my two cents.
