Samuel Adams® Imperial White is a new perspective on the classic witbier style. Witbiers are normally light and refreshing with a fruity finish and we wanted to see how these characteristics would stand up when we amped up the recipe. We were totally blown away by the flavors that were created by this beer.
This is not just a more intense version of our spring seasonal Samuel Adams® White Ale. Imperial White is a new recipe that stands on it own merits. In fact, it is more of a wine substitute than just another refreshing witbier. This is a beer that should be sipped and savored and enjoyed by you.

355ml bottle @Ahven, Helsinki. Poured hazy amber with a thin head. Heavy spicy aroma, quite sweet, banana and wheat. Flavor has dough, coriander and wheat. Quite sweet, but not really sticky. Hides the alcohol quite well. Smooth, good body.

Bottled 355ml (Hilpeä Hauki)
Hazy orange-amber color, small steady off-white head. Aroma is banana and alcohol sweetness. Full-bodied. Sweet banana, alcohol, light spiceyness but can’t trace coriander. Too heavy. Unbalanced.

Bottle. Hazy, amber liquid with medium to big off-white. The aroma is really spicy and estery with notes of coriander, bitter orange/orange peel, lemon peel, wheat, bubble gum and belgo yeast esters. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with lots of spicy belgo notes. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Really fruity and very special. Well hidden alcohol.

I was a bit disappointed by this one. I tend to like double whites but the alcohol presence really ruined this one for me. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy apricot color with a large foamy orange-tan head that left good lacing. The aroma was sweet honey, bread, pepper, orange and must. The flavor failed to live up to the nose. There was a prominent and intrusive boozy presence followed by light notes of bread, caramel, honey and nut with hints of citrus and pepper. Medium length finish was bread and pepper notes and lingering alcohol. Full bodied but the alcohol presence really ruins it. Ok.

Bottle at tasting, pours a cloudy golden with a white head. Aroma of wheat, coriander and citrus peel. Flavour of citrus, wheat, coriander and other indiscernible spices (ginger?) and some oranges. Pretty full-bodied for a wheat, but nothing extraordinary.

12 oz bottle. Pours a lightly hazed amber with a slightly off-white head. Yeasty aroma with hints of bubble gum, cotton candy, caramel. Flavor has some bubble gum and clove yeast flavors, cotton candy, citrus, spice, not a huge amount of complexity, but it’s pretty tasty. This is quite a nice beverage.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into my Weihenstephaner glass. Pours a dark orange with minimal white head, but it does have great lacing. Aroma is very sweet and citrusy, like a caramelized orange. Heavily sweet, tastes like powdered sugar mixed with water. Holy crap it is way too sweet. Slight citrus note on the aftertaste. Medium bodied with a creamy and very sticky texture. Average carbonation and a sickeningly sweet finish. Overall, this is not a beer for me. I like bitter. The more bitter the better. I’ll give this to my girlfriend to finish for me.

Bottle. I should have known better than to order an american white ale... this was totally unbalanced and very strange. It’s very fruity - but in a too intense, nectar like, way. Also notes of caramel and jasmine.

Stolen from my brother: Pours a strange amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of a whole lot of molasses. Taste is absurdly sweet and syrupy. Tastes rather similar to a doppelbock in my opinion or perhaps a barley wine. It is drinkable enough, but hardly something that I would really want to repeat drinking. Interesting, but meh.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with a longlasting off-white head. Has a fruity spicy wheat malty aroma. Sweetish wheat malty spicy flavor with hints of citrus. Has a sweetish wheat malty spicy warming finish.
