Samuel Adams® Imperial White is a new perspective on the classic witbier style. Witbiers are normally light and refreshing with a fruity finish and we wanted to see how these characteristics would stand up when we amped up the recipe. We were totally blown away by the flavors that were created by this beer.
This is not just a more intense version of our spring seasonal Samuel Adams® White Ale. Imperial White is a new recipe that stands on it own merits. In fact, it is more of a wine substitute than just another refreshing witbier. This is a beer that should be sipped and savored and enjoyed by you.

Bottle. Pours cloudy caramel amber. White head. Nose/taste of orange truffle, coriander, orange rind, toffee and alcohol. Taste is a bit to "hot" for a wit. Lots of alcohol in the finish. Medium body.

Bottle at home in London with Lyoli. Pours a clear, ruby-gold with a small, white head. Aroma holds sugary malts and ripe orange. Very sweet flavor, rich, lightly spicy, overripe oranges, slight yeast, candy. Full bodied with average carbonation. Warm finish with sugary malts, slight grain, orange, mild coriander, toasted sugar, bit of cereal. OK, but I wouldn’t want more than half of a 12oz bottle.

Goddamn has Sam Adams made a perfect example of beer that is drain-pour sweet. I mean, Impy White looks good, and the smell, while bland, doesn’t give up the sugary depths within. But, upon tasting this beer, you wonder if your beverage has been replaced with some bizarre, South American banana honey malt beverage. It coats your tongue with wheat and coriander and yeast and honey and simple syrup and Island Oasis Banana Puree. The entire scope of this beer seems to be bananas and sugar, like this brew was designed for that fat kid that used to eat the honey packets at lunch. Flat texture mixes with incredible liquor heat, meaning this beer becomes that much more cloy and sticky as it warms. Terrible. (4/27/09)

12 oz. bottle. Pours a brilliant opaque orange with a fluffy tan head. The aroma is reminiscent of apple cider, with scents of apples, oranges, and spices. The flavor is very sweet and citrusy with a tart finish. The body is medium-heavy and bubbly with carbonation, but still smooth. There is no hint of the high alcohol content. I like witbiers, and this is more of a good thing.

12 oz bottle. Aroma of molasses, caramel malts and spice like clove, alcohol warmth and some surgery tones, with just a small hint of coriander. medium to full body. This color is crazy!! It does NOT look like a Wit at all. It is a amber / orange color. Small head that diminished to nearly nothing, yet it laced the glass with what was left. A very light mouth feel. I don’t know how they list this as a wit?? BUT.. this is a good brew. I taste everything in the aroma...great taste.. yet again NOT a typical wit beer. Taste more like a Doppel Bock or Weizen Bock.

Bottle about 1 year old. Fruity, estery, oxidized aroma, like an aged tripel. Spicy, whine-like, with some alcohol noticeable. Medium amber-copper color with a bit of lace. Strong, alcohlic flavor with rich malts. Very fruity, with wheat, fresh plum, some bitterness. Rather like a wheat wine, but with a Belgian yeast aspect. A bit too alcoholic. Interesting but not great.

Bottle: Poured a orange color with an off white head. Aroma is fruit and coriander blend very appealing. However the taste ruined it for this beer it had some of that fruit to it but was dry and very bitter. I really missed the boat on what they were trying to get me as the customer to enjoy about this one.

.355L bottle, stable a little dense creamy off-white head, light red to deep orange and a little hazy, strong wheaty aroma with orange, peach and flowers, wheaty flavour with mandarine and a hint of spice, sticky sweetness and an alcoholic bitterness which is a little to upfront ,creamy mouthfeel. Probably outrages amounts of wheat, making for an unbalnced over the top brew, maybe it should be called a wheat malt liquor.

12 oz bottle into Sam Adams lager glass. Aroma is very alcoholic, caramel malt is noticeable. Pours hazy orange with a medium dissipating head and lacework that clings to the side of the glass quite nicely. Taste is complex and very good. Carbonation is medium. Tastes more like a Belgian strong ale than a wit. Finishes a bit tart. Me like.

Bottled@Monks Café Sveavägen, Stockholm. Hazy orange colour, not that much head. Aroma is banana, some biscuits and mild yeastyness as well. Flavour is banana, alcohol, soap, some caramel and fudge as well as mild spices. Alcohol gives a rather big burn in the finish.
