Samuel Adams® Imperial White is a new perspective on the classic witbier style. Witbiers are normally light and refreshing with a fruity finish and we wanted to see how these characteristics would stand up when we amped up the recipe. We were totally blown away by the flavors that were created by this beer.

This is not just a more intense version of our spring seasonal Samuel Adams® White Ale. Imperial White is a new recipe that stands on it own merits. In fact, it is more of a wine substitute than just another refreshing witbier. This is a beer that should be sipped and savored and enjoyed by you.

(bottle) cloudy orange amber colour with a small white head; aromas of stewed fruit, honey; thick palate; rich, malty, balanced flavour, starts sweet then turns into a long medium bitter finish; excellent

12oz bought and consumed in New Orleans. Unfiltered orange-brown. Biting alcohol, big sugary spiced mouthfeel. Excessive orange peel only adds to the brutality. Orange liqueur tones, rugged. A complete alcohol bomb, very amberish. Brutal.

$3 4-pack from Jewel in Elmhurst, March 2012. Yes, they were re-building the store aisle and had a bunch of beers like this set out at that price.
Sweet malt and orange smell upon opening. Pours a reddish-brown beer with a bit of fizz, then looks a bot still. Initial taste impression is a dense mouthfeel, somewhat syrupy. Deep toasty malts, not as much citrus as in the nose. Kind of lacks the extra dimensions that a Belgian style should have. Maybe this one won’t age so well. Gets mroe sugary further down.

Hazy light amber color with medium sized head. Some aroma of wheat, light spices, and a touch of sage, and fresh nuts. Full bodied, the mouthfeel is round but also a bit oily; mild flavor of wheat, with light spiciness; there are some esters, but can’t be called fruits; the alcohol perception is quite high; correct bitterness.
Less sweet than a wheat wine, but not exciting either. Boozy.

A hazed dark dirty amber with floaties and thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with peaches, and butter, a bit off. In mouth, a sweet candy sugar with loads of alcohol, caramel, treacle, veering on barley wine, with smooth British hops. OK.

Bottle pours hazy orange with a medium fluffy white head. Aroma is huge orange peel and coriander that almost cover up the booziness of this beer, but the alcohol is there and stings the nose a bit. Flavor is very sweet and a tad cloying with the spices again being very overpowering but covering up for the ten percent alcohol. I enjoy a regular wit, this just isn’t my thing.

0,35 flaske på Liberty of the Seas: gikk nesten i dørken av begeistring. Som en god belgisk trippel og om mulig enda fyldigere. Kun for de som liker søte, sterke øl. Velbalansert. En sann nytelse i små slurker.

355ml bottle @ Hilpeä Hauki, Helsinki

Pours dark orange with a smooth white head. Strong malty aroma with notes of berries, spices and sugary syrup. Taste is malty and sweet with hints of spices and berries. Alcohol warms in the sweet malty finish. Unbalanced, a bit too boozy and malty.
