(2012-12-9 rating) large bottle named Keizer Karel Charles Quint Ruby Red Øl clear amber smooth not that long lasting light brown head. mild aroma. nuts, caramel, syrup. 6 flavor is sweet malty, nutty notes, caramel, syrup, faint dried brown fruits like dates etc. alc. is noticeable towards the end, but not much. the belgian yeasty flavors i would expect are very much subdued, tastes like danish attempts at making belgian beer. still pretty much okay, mild and easy drinking, bit to the sweet side. 7 palate 3 overall 13 (6,3,7,3,13) (2008 rating) (6,4,8,3,15) aroma is nice but not very dominant, clear red/brown with small but beautiful head, sweet flavor, dark fruits, great flavor. good beer indeed.

Ruby colored with a pillowy, beige head. Fruits, caramel malts, some herbs, and an alcohol tinge. Sweet, malty, light molasses, dark fruits, light toffee, and some alcohol. Finishes with a light bitterness. Pretty solid brew, though not great.

33 cl. bottle. Reddish amber color with a minimal beige head. Roasted caramel aroma; could be a hint of smoke. Medium body with creamy/fizzy carbonation. Flavor is roasted malt, a suggestion of smoke - but might be something else. Much more sweet than bitter. Could be a light, roasted malt, barley wine. Certainly has enough heat to burn the throat. Finishes sweet, and probably a bit thin for a barley wine. Certainly in that general class though. If the flavor weren’t so good, it might fit in the 24 oz higravity class.

Deep brown colour with tight laced head. High alcohol content means that the maltiness is somewhat subdued with dryness taking it’s place. Some spices come through in the aftertaste.

33 cL bottle, comes as Charles Quint / Keizer Karel. Pours golden and clear amber with a lacing off-white head. Light yeasty and malty aroma. Flavour is almost wineous malty with a nice overripe fruit note. Ends with a mild fruity flavoured malt base.

Bottle, 8.5%. Aroma of dark malts, a hint of soy. Clear dark brown colour. Nice and big, stable, lacy tan head. The flavour is malty and yeasty with a vegetable note that reminds me of Leffe. The alcohol is noticeable in the flavour, OK level, and slightly warming. The beer is a bit rough and unpolished, but OK. 6 3 6 3 13 (2 Feb 2008). Rerate, bottle, 8.5%. I agree with past me, but the flavour is also caramelly and has a mild spicy hop note. Not unpolished as such, but also not exactly mellow. Probably because the bitterness is a bit uncompromising. 7 3 7 3 15 (26 June 2024).

Bottle from a Delhaize in Gent. Mahogany coloured with a decent off-white head. Aroma of candy sugar, red fruit and spice. The flavour was synthetically sweet with more spice and a vaguely dry finish. Not a good example of the style.

Test vom 11.5.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,9,9,8,8,9 - 9,00
