28 April 2019. At Zythos Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke, 77ships & tderoeck! Clear golden, lasting, thick, foamy, white head. Aroma of dried banana, apricot, apple peel, pear, jenever, yeast, grain. Taste is light to medium fruity sweet, estery banana next to apple & pear, yeasty & bready character, grassy bitter notes of pepper, clove, juniper, vague coriander perhaps, sourish touch, retaining that character into the dry finish with more grassy hops & a spicy, jenever-like effect but not very alcoholic (luckily). Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Mediocre, at best.

Clear blond to gold beer, small creamy white head, stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of banana, bit malty, grains. Rather one dimensional. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter, bit grassy, banana, bit sugary. Aftertaste: rather unpleasant, metallic.

23/01/2018 @home - 33cl bottle from Le Comptoir Belge Clear dark yellow, huge pearly white head; Nose is malts, bubble gum, candy, almond. Taste is sweet malts, some fruit, low bitterness, sweetish ending with some bitterness. A bit thin. Strange.

The first beer by this new brewing company, consisting of three old friends who develop their beers in their own equipment in Brussels but then have the commercial quantities brewed at Belgo Sapiens. Bottle from Ode à la Bière, a nice small ‘beer boutique’ in the city of Mons. Thick, egg-white, frothy, foamy, barely lacing head on an initially clear, lightly orange-tinged ‘old gold’ beer with lively fizz, hazy with sediment. Aroma of white bread crust, fried tomatoes, cold camomile tea, wet paprika powder, persimmon, chalk, pear juice, tamarillo, soap, pumpkin flesh. Fruity onset with apple, ripe pear and banana notes, bit bubblegummy, sourish due to lively and minerally carbonation, slick cereally, slightly soapy malt body with a ‘dimly’ sourish wheat edge, leading to a softly spicy finish, restrainedly phenolic with a floral, medium long, mildly bittering hoppiness to it; ends with lingering fruity esters and bready, bit powery yeastiness but in a fairly clean way compared to many other ‘beginning’ artisanal brews in Belgium. A perfectly quaffable, technically very decent Belgian blonde with pleasant hoppy tail, although in the present day and age, there is no doubt that most consumers will expect a much hoppier profile when they see the word “hoppy” on the label…
