Meester Kriek brut heeft een warme rode kleur met een heerlijk rood fruit aroma. In de mond proef je een frisse zurigheid met een verassend lange afdronk.

37,5cl bottle from Spar Oostende. F: big, deep pink to almost violet, average retention. C: deep dark red to dark, opaque even against the light. A: fruity, sweet red berries, artificial cherries, lactic yoghurt blueberries tones, bit red wine. T: red fruits, cherries and bit sour cherries, bit candy feeling, lemon water, bit wheat, medium body and lower carbonation, this is very simple and not with fresh fruity feeling, may be if this would be my first Kriek beer I would be happy but it isn’t, so not enjoyed.

2 February 2019. At Brugs Bierfestival. Cheers to tderoeck, 77ships, Jerre, Kevin & Anke! Hazy red with a lasting, small, frothy, pink head; some lacing. Aroma of red candy, strawberry jam, red fruity yoghurt, bit industrial, cherries, 'Fristi'. Taste is medium fruity sweet, cherry & strawberry mixed into sweet yoghurt, candy-like too; only slightly sour thanks to a lactic & wheaty touch, note of sour cherry, very faint bitter accent of cherry pits. Dryish, tart, wheaty finish, rather short, some red fruit & sweet candy. Medium body, slick/watery texture, fizzy carbonation. This is even labeled 'Kriek Brut' so one would expect something a bit more refined... alas.

2/II/19 - sample @ Brugs Bierfestival, BB: n/a - (2019-177) Thanks to the Belgian ratebeer crew for sharing todays' beers!
Clear deep ruby red beer, small light pink head, bit adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: very yeasty, veal meat, pretty dirty, weird, diacetyl notes. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sourish, cherries, alcohol, more acidic, tannins. Aftertaste: sour, dirty, tannins, some chlorine, malty, dirty finish. Don't like this one.

New cherry beer by De Meester, bottle at Modeste. Membrane-lacing, bright pale pink, creamy head, misty deep ruby-fuchsia red robe. Aroma of sweet cherry jam and red candy ('poepegatjes', cuberdons), lemonade, blackberry juice, white bread. Sweet onset, red candy sugariness, cherry extract, medium fizz, syrupy middle with ongoing sugary sweetness but a bit less cloying than feared with a bready maltiness with soft caramelly edges and a very thin lemony sourish edge providing some balance. Old school 'candy' kriek the Belgian way, apparently De Meester feels that there is still room for expansion in this particular segment; admittedly there was way worse on the market during the heydays of sweet and simple sugar-fruit beers and this was less repulsive than I was fearing but it still feels out of date and unnecessary in this day and age.
