Delicate and devilishly drinkable, this quintessentially Kentish ale lays the county's hallowed, herbaceous hops on a firm, biscuity bed of pale and crystal malt. Endowed with an inviting auburn-amber hue and a tantalising toffee-ish aroma, it's an enlivening English ale that, given its unassuming ABV, pleasures the palate with a remarkable fullness of flavour.

Cask. Amber dark with an unorthodox compact foam. Nose is malty, biscuits, earthy hops. Mouth is thin, watery, session-bitter with a malty tone.

From cask at The White Horse in Maldon with Terje 25.04.23. Clear dark golden. Bright white head and lacing. Aroma and taste of caramel, cinnamon and sweet malt. Quite forgettable.

Cask @ The Royal Oak, Chapel-leferne. (This place might be in need of some refurbishing and a good sweeping but I can hardly imagine a more friendly and hospitable pub; Kenny and the regulars made us feel more than welcome from the moment we entered until we brushed our teeth). Clear dark orange with a small but nice white head. Aroma and taste of apples, hints of citrus fruits, toffee, herbs and some caramel. Moderate bitterness. No carbonation. Not outstanding but in this setting nice enough for me to have more than one.

Cask at The Crown, Blackheath, London. A really easy going bitter that gave decent flavour for its percentage.

Historical tick which I am adding as a rate so that I can see the impact it has on my stats. 500 Beers To Try Before You Die. At the Horse and Whatever... in Farnborough. There's a reason it's the cheapest bitter they sell.

Cask at The Plough Inn, Brabourne Lees, Kent, Thursday 26th April 2018 Pours clear gold dark amber, good clarity with a slim white head. Toffee and more toffee, hops are rustic and a little earthy but do throw a touch of bitterness. It's in superb nick and whilst not totally my thing it's fine. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov13 3.3
