12 oz bottle, picked up from the brewery a little while back. Poured, and compared to the regular Fred version. 2014 Fred from the Wood. Pours an oily orange color with a swirling fizz white head. Sweet, brown sugar like aroma, with a touch of vinegar. Flavor is much more dry than the regular version, which is one thing I noticed right away. I don’t want to make this rating a total comparison, so that will be my compare and contrast note. Dry wood like flavor with some maple, and cinnamon sugar. Nice roasted finish to it. Very nice overall, but if we play the compare game, I have to give the nod to the original, though it’s less than 1/10th of a point.

Bottle @ HOTD tasting. Shared with Yarrick, PriorL, Mathieu87 and Chris. Dark brown colour, thin layer of dark brown foam. Medium carbonation. Malty body. Aroma of prunes, brown sugar, vanilla, oak and toast. Well balaned but maybe a bit too sweet.

2013 bottle. Hazy dark mahogany color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of oak, dark fruits and molasses. Full-bodied with an oaky booze character and flavors of dark fruit, caramel malt, chocolate and subtle spice. The finish is oaky with caramel and fruit aftertaste. Very good beer all around.

Rich beer, with notes of raisin, oak and off course malt. The bourbon gives the beer a great taste of warm vanilla.
