With this Hophorn, we try to combine the best from more beerstyles. hop bitterness and aroma from the IPA’s,
the fillness from the malty types and notes from roasted barley like you know it from porters and stouts. The color is like walnut brown – deep and dark.

The bitterness is 135 IBU’s, and we have dry hopped with a lot of hops – 4 different types. The sweetness is from 5 different malts, taste of caramel from crystal malt and notes from the chocolate malt. Hophorn is very tasteful and we recommend tulipglass – it’s the way the beer should be served with it’s beige foam. Hophorn is perfect to cheese. The creamy cheeses, the oldest blue cheeses and the goatcheese. Try it to spicy food, but don’t forget to drink water. Then it all tastes much better. The temperature should be around 12-14 degrees. The beer is unfiltered so there might be some sediment in the bottle.

Tap at CBC Islington, 29/08/13. Light black/extremely dark mahogony brown with a good sized light tan head. Nose is light roast, sugars, cocoa, toffee fudge, mineral notes. Taste comprises chocolate pudding, light pine, brown sugars, bubblegum, hop presence evident. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sweet finish with a touch of roast countered by some hop bitterness. Pleaseant enough CDA, the 9.3% is very well hidden, however a little overly sweet for my own personal taste in regard to this style.

Craft Islington. Keg. Clear deep red - brown beer. Little pale cream coloured head. Smooth and softish palate. Fine carbonation. Smooth and slightly sweet dark malt cream, luxuriant. A little dark chocolate but no roast or bitterness. Touch of red berry fruits. Smooth piney hops underpinned by light citrus and tropical fruits. Finishes soft and creamy with all flavours coming together. A sumptuous treat of a double black ipa.

Dark brown color, with small head. The aroma is nice, clearly hoppy, with some roasted malts. Good flavor of caramel, dark caramel, some roasted malts, and correct bitterness; moderate residual sweetness; the final shows some more roasted nuts, and some hop resins.
Not really a Black IPA, more like a very good American Brown Ale; well executed and deeply pleasant.

Rated sunday, february 10, 2013.

Godt smakfult øl. God søtlig lukt. Gir en fulkommen smaksopplevelse både på munnfølelse og ettersmak. Et øl som må prøves.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye with a best before of 26/03/2014. Pours with a hazed brown hued body with a small tan head. Aromas are spicy, hoppy and herbal with light roast and chocolate. Flavors are chocolate, fruity, juicy citrus, earthy and roasty. Quite bitter with an overall bitter balance. Lively bubbles and dry with a lasting bitterness. Feels very PNW despite its international origins.

Bottle. Fruity aroma. Black colour. Small tan head. The flavour is sweetish with a good grassy hop note to balance. A little cream or vanilla. A good version of a dark hoppy beer.
