Chocolate aroma and a deep brown color. Light chocolate flavor but still watery.

A nice lager, and fairly unique. I think this style should be explored further. A reddish brown lager, but not bocklike, with its heavy use of caramel and chocolate malts, giving this a medium-dry chocolatey finish with light caramels, no strong melanoidings. Easy drinking yet characterful.

This is a new beer for me. I have had many Saranac products but have never encountered this one until the new holiday pack came out. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with a small white head. There was a mild sour malt aroma. The flavor was sour, malty and had a dry chocolate malt flavor. A roasted malt element lingers on the finish. A bit thin in body. Rather pleasant overall but not a beer I would really seek out.

Deep dark brown in colour, with a thick moka head. Caramel malt aroma. Nice nutty roasted malt taste with powdered cocoa and more intese nuttiness in post-taste. Downside, this beer is very thin.

Just like the mountainberry, this beer blew my expectations away. Subtle chocolate aroma that comes out in the nose but builds up into a dry maybe even slightly roasty finish. Would appreciate some more bitterness, but as it is, this is a well balanced very drinkable chocolate beer and a great concept. 2004 bottle. wow, it’s good to see my palate had developed. This is just a chocolatey mess, not truly bad, but rather boring and not complex in the least. Filtered to all hell, lifeless, fake carbonation. Not a dunkel.

Dark brown in colour, but not opaque. Definate chocolate noticable in the aroma. I've had many of Saranac's beers, and they've all been watered-down and very thin...but this one actually has some body! The taste isn't excellent, there is not enough of a given element to even describe the 'whole' taste, but at least there is a body to this beer!
