Named after the Glockenspiel of Marienplatz in Munich, Germany, our full-bodied weizenbock reverberates with vibrant flavors. Complex, spicy notes of clove and banana ring brightly through deep-tones of sweet malt and earthy hops.

Sample at AleFest Columbus (06/27/09): The beer pours a cloudy copper-orange color with a medium and fluffy white head that diminishes slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bananas and cloves. Medium, clean body with flavors of yeast, bananas and clove. Light hops presence in the background all along. The finish is fruity with a spiced aftertaste. Overall there are other beers I wish they would have bottled before this one (*ahem* Monster) but it’s not a bad Weizen Bock.

Bottle. Translucent straw/orange-brown body, puffy buff head. The spicy, sweet nose with clove, bubblegum, and light banana esters reminds me of circus peanuts or candy corn. The body, too, reminds me of these candies, with bubblegum, clove, and hints of banana in addition to caramel and vinous alcohol notes. The complexity rivals Belgian ales of similar ABV. This is an excellent wheat beer, a fine addition to Great Lakes’ bottled lineup.

bottle at Fort Wayne tasting - Pours hazy orange with a lasting head. It has a rich aroma of malt and bananas. This brew has a bubbly palate and tastes of sweet wheat malt with yes, bananas and cloves, along with some caramel and some other spices. Nice brew.

On tap at GLBC. Body is a cloudy amber/gold/orange with a little bit of a head. Cloves and sugar/bubble gum dominate the nose, and flavor is fairly consistent with this... In addition to the sweetness and cloves, honey/pear sweetness presents itself as does a nice banana aftertaste. The 8% abv is hidden well. Wish they bottled this stuff.

GABF 2007. An unclear golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with a light note of rotten fruit - too much. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of over ripe fruits - almost rotten, as well as notes of alcohol and wood. Not to my liking.

GABF 2002: Cloudy copper color. Lemony zesty aroma. Candyish bubblegum flavor. Strong and rich, almost cloying.
