限定醸造シリーズ第４９弾 (バッチ目２９９)：複雑性に富んだもの、味わい深いもの、もしくは独創性溢れるもの、こういった要素をもつビール作りが止むことのないレースの如く繰り広げられているかのような今の風潮において、飲み飽きしない飲み易さといった要素はこれらの隅に置かれがちではないでしょうか。誤解してほしくはないので念のため言いますが最近リリースした8.5％のダブルIPA“柔”やモルト感あふれる“甘い罠”といった強烈なインパクトのあるビールを私たち自身こよなく愛しております。ですが、こうした類のビールはその夜の締めくくりとして最後の一杯に楽しみたいビールであり、最初の一杯に手を伸ばしたいものでなければ、青空の下タップルームの外で友人やお客さんたちとわいわいおしゃべりしながら飲みたいビールでもありません。そして、長い一日の仕事の後におつかれさまと肩の力を抜き平静を取り戻させてくれるのはバランス感良くすいすいと口に運べる飲み易いビール以外にはないような気がします。

今回のリリースではこの点を表現するために２種類の異なるスタイルに目を向けました。１つ目はアメリカンブロンドエールであり以前リリースした“すっぴん”のようにキレがありライトで飾り気のないシンプルさをもちながら決して物足りなさを感じさせないスタイルです。もう１つはアメリカンウィート。小麦麦芽由来の爽やかな特徴をもち、ホップにスポットライトがあてられることも多いスタイルです。この二つのどちらかに偏ることのなく、それでいてそれぞれの特徴を感じられるようなバランスの取れたビール、つまりは何度もおかわりしたくなるような楽しんで飲めるビールに仕上げることをこのビールでは狙っています。CascadeとMotuekaホップの味わいが余計な苦みを感じさせることなく酵母由来のフルーティーなエステル感をきれいに引き立て、ゴールデンプロミス麦芽の独特な甘さとうまく合わさることで、まさに絶妙なバランス感のとれたビールとなりました！

名前の由来: ライトでキレのあるブロンド・エールと小麦由来の甘さや爽やかさを持つウィート・エールと聞けば全く異なる二つの個性のようだけど、これらが絶妙なバランスで一つに合わさった時にえも言われぬ輝きを見せるというのがわかった。

それはまるで熟練した二人のパフォーマーが観客を目の前に見事な玉乗りを見せているかのよう。 息のあった姉妹風の二人は一糸乱れぬ動きでバランスをとり、玉に乗ってることを感じさせないほど自由に表現をし、観るものを沸かす。

スタイル：アメリカン・ウィート・エール

The 49th beer release in our "Limited Edition" series (our 299th batch): In what seems like a constant race to make more complicated, flavourful, or inventive beers, often times things like drinkability get pushed by the wayside. Don’t get us wrong, we love beers with huge impact like our recent 8.5% Double IPA 'Yawara' or the malt forward 'Sweet Trap', but these are the type of beers we reach to when we want to close out the night, not when we are having our first pint of the day or chatting with friends and customers enjoying the nice weather outside our taproom. After a long day at work, nothing seems to bring you back to life like a well-balanced, easy drinking beer.

For this release we looked to two different beer styles to accomplish this task. The first is an American Blonde Ale, which similar to 'Suppin' is a simple, no-frills brew that is crisp and light without being boring. The second is an American Wheat, which gets its refreshing character from a portion of wheat malt and usually brings the hops more into the spotlight. Without going too far in either one direction, we looked to create something that was balanced yet had a noticeable character and nuance that meant we could be happy drinking pint after pint. The flavour of Cascade and Motueka hops really bring out the fruity ester character from the yeast without being overly bitter, and sit nicely on the unique sweetness of Golden Promise malt...the perfect all-rounder!

Naming: Of all the acts at the circus, it is not always the most flamboyant that captures the audience’s attention. Flying through the air on a trapeze or daring to put ones head in the mouth of a lion may thrill the crowd, but nothing holds the focus quite like the tightrope.

Aiming to combine two styles can often result in a beer that can’t quite decide what it wants to be, and one such tiny misjudgment can result in a long fall. If the light sweetness from the Wheat Ale meets well with the dryness of the Blonde; however, it may be truly viewed as a subtle performance to be admired: a true balancing act.
