On tap. Pours black with light tan head. Aromas of licorice, oily coffee, vanilla, and roasted malts. Flavors follow same leanings towards oily black coffee. Nothing very assertive though lots of carbonation and a little heat. A good base for adding flavors...

Black with a tall beige head. Sweetened coffee, chocolate, a bit of campfire, and dark roasted malt. Medium bodied. Finish is bittersweet and coffee. A very nice imperial stout that is on the roasted and coffee side of things.

First rating of 2016, I decided to rate a beer that is right in front of me weekly, though Iβm half certain this is the first time Iβve ever had one. How is this possible. Kinda fun though to try all the different versions, then go back to the base to see where they all began. 12 oz can poured. Beer cans are a big deal. Pours black with a nice cinematic brown head. Nice roasted aroma with a subtle sweetness to it. Big robust, roasted malt flavor with the same subtle sweetness in the background. Fun, tasty beer, and full of flavor. Very solid.

Poured from 12 fl oz can. Near black with tan head. Dominant coffee aroma. Taste is a more subdued coffee with considerable oatmeal, subtle chocolate, alcohol is unnoticeable.

[3/2/15] Draught at Fremont Brewing in Seattle. Black with brown foam. Roasty aroma with some coffee. Roasty flavor, rather sweet, with coffee, chocolate, caramel, and a bitterish and slightly ashy finish. Full-bodied. Very nice.

Tap at Fremont - black pour with a tan lace - well-executed and balanced imperial stout - creamy texture, full body - approach is medium sweet, with a lot of chocolate character - middle to finish develops some acidity and dry roastiness that balance and round out the flavor quite well - tasty.

Sampler at brewery. I had this 3 years ago in a sampler as well. If memory is correct it remains similar and good. Very dark brown but looks a bit black. Tan head. For an "imperial" its rather easy. Aroma is nice roast with no harsh roast coming through. Fumey clean unsweet brownie as well. Very clean and relatively light palate with only mild acidity at the end of the flavor, blends with a mineral like, lightly spritzy finish. Flavor is low roast, clean unsweet brown malts. Very nice, softness of oatmeal is felt throughout. My hope is for even a less harsh finish with the mineral and acidity all at the end.

Pitch black and oily but bot viscous in texture pours with a sizable head Nose is weak with a hint of roast and dark chocolate taste is interesting. Itβs a very toasty stout, not warming but no barley additions were spared. I get some creaminess from the oatmeal, pretty high bitterness. Drinks close so a Sam smiths oatmeal stout plus some added booziness. Itβs lacking something.
