ABV: 5.0%
Name: Urara
The 33rd beer release in our "Limited Edition" series (our 218th batch): Spring is finally here and the beautiful weather that comes with it has certainly seemed to drum up a thirst among craft beer lovers in Japan. In addition to welcoming a lot of customers to our taproom on its official re-open, the same weekend drew a large crowd to Snow Monkey Beer Live at Shiga Kogen Beer in Nagano. With the cherry blossoms beginning to bud, our thoughts have turned to drinking under the trees and along the banks of the Kamo river.
With this in mind, we crafted a Hoppy Wheat Ale for our first seasonal beer using American yeast for 2018. We have made similar beers in the past, including 'Shochu Mimai' and 'Catcher in the Wheat', but in comparison to those products, this one uses more wheat (33% of the total recipe) and focuses on Mosaic hops.
The increased wheat content has left the beer with a subtle cloudiness and a refreshing light character. Mosaic hops used late in the brewing process leave a characteristically tropical and citrusy flavour without being overpowering. In short, the perfect cherry blossing viewing beer!
Naming: Soaking up the daytime sun while watching the flowers in bloom without a cloud in the sky or a care in our hearts. What better way to express this feeling than Urara!

Nice. Got that sharp hoppiness to it. Belgian wheatiness, some soapiness too.

Tap at the brewery as Urara Hoppy Wheat Ale. Cloudy gold with a thin head of foam, a bit of a spicy funk but the hops are a little subdued. The taste is tangy citrus and funky/spicy notes with crackers malts and a bit of a bite in the finish. Solid and refreshing.

Tap at Takumiya. Pale, slihgtly dull gold, hazy, with lace. Juicy fruit and wheat nose, grapefruit, tropical, biscuits. Rich wheaty flavor, biscuits, citrus, lightly tropical. Smooth and summery. Decent but less interesting than the 2 wheat ales from last year which were much more hopped up.
