Complex earthy, smoky, and oak notes play against a refined, yet boozy, mix of sweet and bitterness. This remarkably limited version was 100% barrel aged for 12 months in scotch whiskey casks.

From tap at Deschutes Brewery, Bend. Aroma is earthy and smokey with dark malt, tobacco, coffee, roast, touch of peat, scotch barrel, dark chocolate, dessert notes, a hint of prunes. Flavour is sweet and medium bitter. A bit boozy, but not terribly so. Body is full. Rich and very good.

2016 "Remarkable limited release" according to the label. Bottle split at Gent Tasting. Opaque black color, small to average sized light brown colored head. Aroma is malts, liquor, light ash. Flavor is malts, roasted malts, liquor, raisins, bitter, quite some bitterness. Roasted malt bitterness. Hard on the liquor imo. But pleasant, notheless.

2016 bottle. Brown-black pour with a medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Sparse patches of lace. Aroma of scotch, malt, anise and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of smokey scotch, caramel malt, ripe fruit and fudge. The finish is peaty scotch and chocolate malt. Good beer all around.

2016 vintage bottle, picked up in Wyoming during the ‘17 trip. Oily, virtually black pour with a thin, beige head. Aroma full of scotch, licorice and molasses. A hint of cherry. Taste is bittersweet with a very mild sourness at the backend. Big heavy body, moderate to mild carbonation. Not quite as good as the brandy barrel variant but still very nice.

22 oz waxed bottle, 2016 vintage, poured to a brandy snifter. We finally got around to opening this one, after almoat a couple years of almost opening it. Cheers! Jet black pour, thick appearance. Not as much scotch as far as peat goes, as I expected, but the flavor is there. Extremely smooth imperial stout, more smooth than ther regular Abyss, I'd say. An excellent variant. A memorable brew.
